The fortified town of Naarden- Vesting

A perfect tip for an informative, but most adventurous day of culture must be Naarden-vesting (Naarden-fortress). Here you will find within walking distance of each other two beautiful museums also for children very worthwhile: the Nederlands Vestingmuseum (Dutch Fortress Museum) and the Weegschaalmuseum (Libra Museum).

You can really feel the history of the Netherlands and the east side of Amsterdam when you visit the fortified town of Naarden-Vesting.

Witness the only remaining gate that gave access to the fortified town in the 1680's, together with one other gate that no longer remains.

In the Dutch Fortress Museum (Vesting Museum) you can experience the history of the Dutch fort to see and experience.

On every first Sunday of the month there is a tour with a gunner in uniform and on the Bastion Turf Gate. Furthermore you can cruise through the moat with the museum boat every weekend (from March 1st to end of October). Not only fun for kids!

After a nice relaxing drink and dinner at Restaurant Het Hert makes the day complete.

And do you feel like taking a walk after diner? Climb the ramparts and walk about 3.5 km around Naarden-vesting on the trail.

You have wonderful views over the fortified city and the surrounding area (including the Naardermeer).

Along the way you'll find also a petting zoo and a playground. If you're in Naarden, you should definitely go take a look at the Libra Museum, opened in the spring of 2012. Here you see a large collection of balances, scales, weights and lengths and sizes.

There is much to do for kids in this new museum. It is located in the Spanish House, Turf Poortstraat 27.
